Nextdoorland,
the new Soft Boys album, will be released
on Matador Records
on September 24th. Recorded over this past winter and spring, the
album features the same lineup that brought you Underwater Moonlight:
Robyn Hitchcock, Kimberley Rew, Matthew Seligman and Morris Windsor.
Besides the CD release, a limited vinyl edition will also include
a bonus 7" with two live tracks from the Knitting
Factory.
Following a
date at the Mean
Fiddler (for which you can get tickets here)
in London on October 17th, the Soft Boys will be touring North America
in support of the album into early November, with UK dates planned
to follow. Nothing confirmed in the UK as yet, but we've
got US dates and venues. Available at shows (as well as through
the website) will be the new album's "Side Three," a CD
comprising five studio tracks plus one live recording from the last
tour: "Evil Guy," recorded at the soundcheck at the Fillmore
and featuring Thomas Dolby
on keyboards.
We've got
track listings for both Nextdoorland and Side Three.
In addition
to Billboard's
announcement of the upcoming release, Hitchcock has spoken with
Rolling
Stone, while bassist Matthew Seligman talks haddock and Snail
in this
interview.
Robyn Hitchcock
has released a 2-disc set of Bob Dylan covers entitled Robyn
Sings on his Editions PAF label. Incorporating the rare Beautiful
Queen CD and featuring a 6-panel booklet with liner notes by
Robyn, it's available in Europe and the UK through Vital Distribution
as well as through the US
and UK
offices of the Museum of
Robyn Hitchcock.
MOJO Magazine described Kimberley
Rew's Tunnel
into Summer as "big, jangling guitars, engaging lyrics
and harmonies from heaven" ... now Kim's
new album is out and available from Bongo
Beat. Mixed by Pat Collier, Great
Central Revisited features guest appearances by Robyn Hitchcock
and former Soft Boy Andy Metcalfe, as well as Dave Mattacks, Vince
de la Cruz, Patch Hannan, Julian Dawson, Lee Cave-Berry, and Tom
Dalpra.
Twenty-one years after its initial appearance, the Soft Boys' Underwater
Moonlight was joyfully re-released in March
of 2001 by Matador Records.
The reissue,
which included more than two dozen additional songs, preceded a
twenty-six city tour of the U.S., Canada,
and the UK, entertainingly chronicled
by Matthew Seligman. We've also got live
mp3s from selected shows.
